Mental Health and Wellbeing
Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It effects how we think, feel, and act. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices. Mental health is important at every stage of life, from childhood and adolescence through to adulthood.

How do we teach the children about Mental Health and Wellbeing?
At Highburton First School, we love books and reading! They are a great way to introduce sensitive topics to children and engage them in discussion. The Colour Monster by Anna Llenas has been used in school to introduce children to different emotions and feelings. Year groups have now got a feelings board for children to share how they are feeling throughout the day. This gives us the chance to talk to the children about emotions and feelings, why we feel that way and what strategies we can use to change negative feelings.
